At the Chen family counter in Tainan, some of the quietest questions were about intimacy, about wanting a child, and about the changes of midlife. People asked them softly, across the counter. This page is where we are rebuilding those answers, carefully and in plain language.

Our old tincture kits for these concerns have been retired. What follows is education only, not a product pitch.

See a doctor first

  • New or ongoing erection problems. They can be an early warning sign of heart disease, diabetes or high blood pressure, so they are worth a check-up, not just a remedy.
  • Trying to conceive. See a doctor after 12 months of trying, or after 6 months if the woman is 35 or older. Go sooner if periods are irregular or absent.
  • Low desire together with low mood, tiredness, or pain during sex. These often have a cause a doctor can find and treat.
  • Taking medicine for blood pressure, the heart, blood sugar, mood, or hormones? Ask your doctor or pharmacist before trying any herb or supplement.

If you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant

Check with your doctor or midwife before using any herb or pressing any acupressure point. Traditional Chinese medicine avoids several common herbs and points during pregnancy.

The everyday foundations

The advice given most often at the counter was also the simplest: sleep enough, eat regular warm meals, move every day, and take stress seriously. Smoking and heavy drinking work against every one of these concerns. Gentle daily movement is a good place to start; see our Qi Gong exercise page.

Coming to this page

We are writing new guides on midlife and menopause, on intimacy, and on preparing for pregnancy. Each one will be reviewed by a licensed acupuncturist before it is published.

This page is for education and is not medical advice. Please talk with your doctor about your own health.
