UB54 is found on the back of the thigh in the gluteal region:
- It is positioned about 3 cun lateral to the sacrococcygeal hiatus.
- Essentially, it lies near the lower border of the buttocks, just at the midpoint between the sacrum and the greater trochanter of the femur.
Functions & Benefits:
- Relieves lower back pain & sciatica
- Eases stiffness & pain in the hip and thigh
- Regulates urination and alleviates urinary difficulties
- Releases tension in the sacral area and gluteal muscles
How to Apply Acupressure to UB54:
- Locate the point by sitting or lying down.
- Use your thumb or knuckles to press the point firmly.
- Apply deep, circular pressure for 1-2 minutes while taking deep breaths.
- Repeat on both sides as needed.
To activate your body’s self-healing power, first locate of the acupressure points that you need to work on for your specific needs. Apply firm pressure is the most fundamental technique. Use thumbs, fingers, palms, the side of the hand, or knuckles to apply steady, stationary pressure to the point for 1-2 minutes.
Use firm but comfortable pressure. It should never be painful. Press gently if you bruise easily, take blood thinners, or have varicose veins or broken skin. The more developed the muscles are, the more pressure you should apply. If you feel extreme sensitivity or pain, gradually decrease the pressure until you find a balance between pain and pleasure. Do not continue to press a point that is excruciatingly painful.
