DEFENSE — Seasonal Wellness Herbal Tea, TCM decoction (pack of 3)
$32.95
A traditional Chinese formula of honeysuckle, forsythia, isatis, skullcap, reishi, bupleurum, astragalus, platycodon, atractylodes and ginger, for the change of seasons. Supports normal immune function.* Warm, soothing, and simmered the old way.
At the Chen family counter, this kind of formula was wrapped in paper for customers at the turn of the seasons. DEFENSE is that tradition in three pouches of organic herbs for decoction, sourced from ethical farms and chosen for their place in the classical Chinese materia medica.
Ingredients (organic)
Honeysuckle Flower (Jin Yin Hua), Chinese Skullcap (Huang Qin), Isatis Root (Ban Lan Gen), Forsythia Fruit (Lian Qiao), Reishi Mushroom (Ling Zhi), Bupleurum Root (Chai Hu), Astragalus Root (Huang Qi), Platycodon Root (Jie Geng), Atractylodes Rhizome (Bai Zhu), Dried Ginger (Gan Jiang).
In the Chinese tradition these herbs are described as clearing heat, supporting the Lung and Spleen systems, and supporting normal immune function.*
To prepare (makes about 3 cups)
- Put the contents of one pouch in a pot with 4 cups (1 quart) of water.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer with the lid on for 30–50 minutes. A longer simmer makes a stronger tea.
- Let cool, strain, and sweeten with honey if you like.
- Refrigerate the rest for later.
Taste: pungent, bitter, slightly spicy. Store the pouches in a cool place out of direct sunlight.
To use
½ cup of the tea, up to 5 times a day, for no more than 4–5 days at a time. Not for continuous daily use.
